Course Title:  Web Design

Credit Hours:   (3- 0) 3 Cr. Hrs.
Description:

This course emphasizes the integration of design principles and software skills to create effective Web sites. Students will focus on advanced design features such as tables, XHTML, Cascading Style Sheets, Frames, Forms, Layers and importing images and other media. Students will apply software and design skills to a variety of realistic Web design projects. Students will explore the World Wide Web: how the Web works, common browsers, assembling Web pages and linking documents. Adobe Dreamweaver or other current HTML software authoring/editor will be used. The student will look at on-line design considerations, such as download times, optimizing file size and file formats.

Prerequisite:

           (A requirement that must be completed before taking this course.)

  • CGT 135 and
  • CGT 162
Competencies:

           Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Utilize XHTML styles for formatting character and paragraph text attributes.
  • Modify Cascading Style Sheets, frames, forms, and layers in developing web pages.
  • Import images and other multi-media elements.
  • Design sites using graphic design processes and principles.
  • Describe how the World Wide Web works, common browsers, assembling and designing Web Pages and linking documents.
  • Identify the client's needs and goals using scripting and creating thumbnails, matrixes, maps or storyboards to organize material.
  • Create a Web Site, manage Web pages, and work with Web graphics, including text, graphics, multimedia, tables, navigation, frames, and forms, along with publishing and testing the site.
