Course Title: XHTMLCSS Standards
Credit Hours: (3- 0) 3 Cr. Hrs.
Description:
This course introduces the student to the unique design principles and W3C standards for electronic screen design. Designing for the World Wide Web or for an interactive computer screen requires a new look at design principles. This course compares traditional paper design to electronic screen design. Students will design and code basic Web sites utilizing XHTML and Cascading Stylesheets (CSS); with an emphasis on access and semantic markup.
Prerequisite:
(A requirement that must be completed before taking this course.)
- Computer experience highly recommended.
Competencies:
Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Identify how to design usable Web Pages or screen designs.
- Identify the user population, analyze the design and flow of a project, and select the file format for the task flow design.
- Identify the unique design issues and limitations for-various output media.
- Design navigational control mechanisms.
- Optimize layout, wording, color and background.
- Utilize basic vocabulary such as hypertext, hypermedia, interactivity, hyperlinks, HTML, PDF and other related terminology.
- Apply standards and create web page designs using XHTML and CSS coding; with an emphasis on access and semantic markup.
- Organize and manage site files using relative and absolute path addressing.
